Azur is more than just a wine packaging design. It represents a cultural symbol deeply rooted in Chilean history and heritage. Lapis lazuli, declared the national stone of Chile in 1984, holds immense significance for both locals and tourists. With only two deposits in the world, one in Afghanistan and the other in Chile's Ovalle region, the stone is a rare gem that embodies purity, nobility, and the beauty of the Andes mountain range.
Spumante Limarí, the winery behind Azur, has embraced organic production since 2014, culminating in the first full organic production in 2018. This commitment to organic agriculture allows the winery to express the unique features of the Limarí Valley, enhancing its climate and soil attributes. It also reflects their dedication to the well-being of the people and the environment of the valley.
The Azur packaging consists of a magnetic box and a label. The magnetic box, printed in five colors with a leaf silver finish, exudes elegance and sophistication. Its dimensions of 32.5 cm x 9.5 cm x 9.5 cm perfectly accommodate a 750 cc wine bottle, allowing for vertical or horizontal storage. The label, printed in four special colors with a mechanical embossed effect, adds a touch of luxury to the overall design.
Azur's unique properties lie not only in its design but also in its functionality. The packaging is designed to be easily assembled anywhere in the world, making it suitable for different markets. The bottles can be opened using the traditional Napoleonic method called sabrer, where the bottle's neck is removed with a sabre or short knife, creating a memorable and theatrical experience for wine enthusiasts.
Azur has received recognition for its exceptional design. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
Azur is not just a wine packaging design; it is a testament to the beauty of lapis lazuli and the dedication of Spumante Limarí to organic production. With its captivating design and cultural significance, Azur is a true masterpiece that brings together art, design, and the world of wine.
